Movie Review: Faith Like Potatoes

I rarely have a high opinion of Christian movies, especially American ones with their stupid emphasis on "end times". Last Friday I saw a really good Christian movie made in South Africa called "Faith Like Potatoes". It is now out on DVD and we rented it from the Denver Public Library after a recommendation from a friend.

It's a fairly contemporary movie with most of the action taking place in the 1970s to 1980s about a Scottish guy, Angus Buchan, and his journey from angry guy to Christ and the miracles that happen thereafter. The cool thing about this movie is that it is a true story. They really deal with a man's anger and the choices and transformation that happen to him and his family when he gets saved. It has some really uncomfortable racism, but that draws me to the heart of the story. FLP deals with issues that we face in America, like racism and anger, but we get to see it through the eyes of South Africa.

Angus Buchan and his family get to really live out their faith in the farmland of South Africa and a number of real miracles and real tragedies happen through their wrestling with God, themselves, a cold traditional church and secular society. If you are person who desires to live an original life, outside the Matrix, then this is a good story that will inspire you. See it!
