It's Dejavu All Over Again

It was on a long drive home from being on the road when I said to a friend, who was excited about Hillary Clinton losing the nomination for the Democratic Presidential Ticket in 2008, "Mark my words, there will be a day when we will wish we had elected her, and not Barak Obama." There was a long silence of unbelief at me saying anything so unsettling, so heretical, so true. I rambled on, as in a trance of an oracle, and said, "I'm serious, if this guy gets in it will be like Jimmy Carter all over again, only worse. You wait, we'll have  new versions of misery indexes, gas lines, economic and international instability. Every punk nation will do whatever they want with no fear of real reprisal, because of the lack of clarity and apparent incompetence of his leadership. And when the Congress and Senate figure out how truly incapable of leadership this guy is, they'll just sit on their hands while saying, "Go for it Mr. President! Go for it!" while packing their golden parachutes for a cushy landing in the consulting and lobbying "industry"."

As I came out this "trance" the radio announcer was declaring the news of a thousand point fall in the markets. And I said to myself, and my friend, "It's deja vu all over again."
